Submitted by Midge Leitch, VMD, ACVS, Londonderry Equine Clinic, 93 Saint Malachi Road, Cochranville, PA 19330

Synopsis:

Photo #1

"Bravo", a nine year old Thoroughbred Gelding (Amateur Jumper) presented to Londonderry Equine Clinic on 4/17/02 after developing an open, draining lesion over the cannon bone of the right forelimb. Treatment prior to admission consisted of primarily bandaging.

Photo #2

After debridement on the day of admission, the wound was treated exclusively with ACell Vet™ a total of 10 times over a thirty day period in conjunction with systemic antibiotics (trimethoprim/sulfa). After eight days, Bravo is showing good granulation bed formation on the periphery of the wound.

Photo #3

After twenty six days, the wound area is now almost completely closed.

Photo #4

After 30 days, the wound is closed and re-growth of hair is beginning at the periphery of the original wound.

The horse was discharged on 5/21/02 and the wound was completely healed by 6/10/02, when the horse was re-admitted with swelling in the opposite forelimb.
