"Chopper" a female spayed seven year old Border Collie mix presented to Northside Veterinary Hospital February 5, 2003 for a scheduled teeth cleaning. Upon examination, it was found that both lower premolars were compromised, and that extraction was warranted.
![]() Photo #1 | Following extraction, the extracted teeth were compared and displayed comparable root length as well as comparable socket depth. The right side socket was left open, acting as the "control" side. |
![]() Photo #2 | The left side socket had a small, folded piece of the lyophilized ACell Vet™ bioscaffold inserted into the socket (See Photo # 2), allowing the saliva present to re-hydrate the material, fixing the material in the socket. |
At follow-up on February 14, 2003 (9 days) the left side (with the ACell Vet™ material) is closed completely. Although the dog does not favor one side over the other, the right side has a pocket of 1.8cm and still has a purulent discharge.
